Dinner at the House of Commons
Max Patel from St James's Place Wealth Management hosted a wonderful dinner at the House of Commons in April 2016. The event started with a fascinating tour of the Palace of Westminster, followed by a champagne reception on the Terrace overlooking the River Thames. After a delicious three course dinner we were entertained by Nick Jenkins, Patron of Shiva and dragon in BBC's Dragons' Den, in a speech highlighting his career, including starting Moonpig.com and being selected as a dragon. This was followed by the auction, expertly hosted by Mark Rogers, Head of Business at SJP, which raised a staggering £17,000. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the event and helped raised such a large amount for Shivia.
>Aston Martin VIP Driving Day and Factory Tour
Max Patel and her colleagues at St James’s Place Wealth Management hosted an exclusive VIP experience for a small group of guests at Aston Martin’s HQ at Gaydon, Warwickshire. Everyone had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of two of their latest models and put the cars through their paces on the open road. We also had an expert guided tour of the motor museum and production factory. It was a fascinating and exhilarating day, thoroughly enjoyed by all – and raised an amazing £11,000 for Shivia. We are enormously grateful to everyone who hosted the day and to the guests who took part.
Music Concert at St Peter's Church, Eaton Square
We are grateful to Claire Tester for organising a stunning music concert with performances from the talented music scholars from Farnborough 6th Form College, and to Cara Belcher for making delicious canapés for the after party. The concert was free to attend but our guests gave generosity on the night and we raised over £1,500.
Royal Albert Hall Fundraising Events, 2014/2015, London
Vin Murria kindly donated a box for three evenings for Shivia to host at the Royal Albert Hall: a John Rutter concert, the Classical Spectacular and Madam Butterfly.
Garlinda Birkbeck Photographic Exhibition, December 2014, London
Garlinda hosted a wonderful exhibition of her photos from a recent trip to West Bengal in a gallery in London. She very generously donated all the proceeds to Shivia, totalling over £7,000. Please visit www.garlindabirkbeck.com to see examples of her work.
Shivia Venquis Reed Smith lunch Event, July 2014, London
Reed Smith kindly hosted a lunch time event on 9th July for companies/individuals interested in hearing first-hand from Venquis about their experience of the Extraordinary Leadership Journey in Kolkata, India – combining world-class leadership development with corporate social responsibility activities. This was a powerful and persuasive presentation, it is difficult to portray in words the brilliant benefits of this combined CSR leadership programme. – please email charlotte@shivia.com for details.
Shivia Venquis Fundraising Event, November 2012, London
Shivia teamed up again with Venquis to hold our annual fundraising event at China White to celebrate Diwali – the Indian Festival of Light. It was great fun and huge thank you to those who donated auction prizes.
Shivia Venquis Fundraising Event, October 2011, London
Shivia teamed up with Venquis, the Business Transformation Recruiter, to host a Diwali fundraising night. The event was a huge success, with 100 people turning out to support us and raising ￡6,000. We are especially grateful to those who donated items for our auction.
Shivia 2 Water Fundraising Event, June 2011, London
Shivia teamed up with 2 Water, a charity that funds water pumps through wine-tasting events. 2 Water decided to support Shivia’s work in Nepal where our borrowers often walk up to 7 hours per day in search of clean water. The event raised funds for two pumps. We were delighted with the turn out and grateful to 2 Water and its CEO, Diana Isac, who organised the event, Tim Atkin who hosted the evening (Master of Wine) and Barnaby Parker (CEO, Venquis) who ran the auction.
DLA Piper Fundraising Event, April 2011, Dubai
The law firm, DLA Piper ME, organised a fund-raiser in Dubai for companies in their building in Emaar Square to attend. DLA Piper sold goods made by local artisans in West Bengal and donated all proceeds to Shivia. We are particularly grateful to Wafa Tarnowska, DLA Piper CSR Manager Middle East, who organised the event with great warmth and enthusiasm.
Photographic Exhibition, Fundraising Event, March 2009, London
Garlinda Birkbeck visited Western Nepal with Olly Donnelly (Executive Director) in March 2009. Garlinda held a photographic exhibition, "People of Nepal", on 9th-11th February at Indar Pasricha's gallery, 22 Connaught Street, London. Garlinda donated all proceeds from the photographs and postcards to Shivia and raised over £12,000. Shivia Launch, House of Lords, February 2009, London
We held our official launch at the House of Lords where we invited a wide range of friends, old and new. Amongst guests were Lord Mervyn Davies, Lord and Lady Sheikh, Baroness Flather and Lord Matthew Evans. We had support from all our UK pro-bono teams including Clifford Chance, EFG Private Bank and Portland PR. Jayanta Roy, President of SARS, attended the event and spoke about the power of microfinance at a grass-roots level. Bang and Olufsen kindly donated a limited Beo Sound System for us to auction.
